Waterways event celebrates 1990 year

A 19 9 0 commemorative event with a difference was the opening of the Waimarino Pony Club's new water jump, on Sunday 4 November. The jump was opened by club patron Alan Bo water and the first rider to take on the jump, which was festooned with 1990's banners, was Mrs Judy Wakeling, secretary of the New Zealand Pony Club Association. Club president Nikki Williams made two presentations before the official opening, the first was a life member-

ship certificate and badge to Mr Bowater. She said he had been involved. with the pony club movement for 25 years and still plays an important part of the Waimarino club. "He comes along to competitions whenever possible, he supports us with donations and trophies and shows a genuine interest in the club and local riders," she said. Mrs Evelyn Cooper made the second presentation, to Mrs Anne Roke, as landowner of the course, Waimarino and vice president of the New Zealand Pony Club Association.

Mrs Williams then thanked the 1990 Commission for their generous donation which made the building of the jump possible. "In keeping with the spirit of the which the donation was given, we feel that this water jump complex will give many riders, young and not so young, a lot of confidence and pleasure." She said it would be the only water jump in the King Country and that it would always be remembered as the 1990 Waterways Complex. She said it was no

mean feat to build the complex, both manually and financially. She thanked all the volunteers and people who made donations, then thanked Ann and Ian Roke "who allowed us to dig a hole 14x11 metres in the paddock."
