Longest Whakapapa season ever ends
Whakapapa's longest ski season ever ended on Sunday after a week of perfect weather, said marketing manager Scott Lee yesterday. He said skiers had enjoyed perfect weather for six straight days and perfect spring snow from 9.30am to 1.00pm. The season started on 9 June and ended 11 November and saw 147 skiing days out of a possible 156, which was also great news, said Mr Lee. He said the field drew well in excess of a quarter of a million visitors through the year. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts start their summer rides on 15 December and finish on 3 February, with two chairs open for rides and guided walks run in conjunction with DoC. Mr Lee said the company will soon be releasing details of their summer development work. Rumoured to be included in this programme is snow making.
