Busy labour weekend for Waimarino police

Burglars had stolen about $11,000 worth of goods from Ohakune, police discovered at Labour Weekend. Detective Larry Meredith said a number of burglaries had occurred some time in the previous month, but the chalets had not been visited in the meantime. About $4000 worth of goods were taken from a Miharo St, Rangataua ski house. Two sets of skis, ski boots, sunglasses, a jacket and some kitchen knives were taken from a Tau Street, Rangataua house and petrol was taken from a parked car outside the Powderkeg Inn. A pair of skis were taken from a car parked outside the Powderkeg on Sunday night of Labour weekend. Thieves took two car speakers from a car parked in Goldfinch Street, and a television aerial was taken from the Ruapehu Gliding Club. A thief stole a pair of Reebok basketball boots from the Whakapapa ski hire shop, a pair of skis were stolen from a car parked at Turoa on the Sunday and a pair were taken from a car at the Ohakune Hotel. Six pairs of skis, ski boots and a microwave were taken from a Rimu Street house sometime in October. Stock saddles and bridles worth $2000 were taken from a woolshed in Pipiriki the week before Labour Weekend and a Masport lawnmower was taken from a Goldfinch Street house.
