Primary schools activities round-up

Waiouru Waiouru School is holding a book fair all this week, with books available for people to buy for themselves or to donate to the school. The "Great New Zealand Book Fair" is set up in the school hall and is open from 10am to 4pm (closed 1.001.30pm for lunch). Story readings will be held for younger folk. Raetihi Raetihi School children attended the

Hunterville Cross Country recently, with Shaun McDonough placed 6 th in the form two boys group, and Jessie Pope placed 4th in the standard four girls. More than 120 children raced in each division. Rangataua The Rangataua School Board of Trustees has bought a new pool liner and plans to fit it soon, ready for a long, hot summer. Also planned next month is a planting and working bee in the grounds. The school's charter has been approved and signed by the Ministry, and returned. School activities planned include a Ruapehu area junior sports day, when more than 250 new entrant to

standard one aged children are expected to attend. National Park National Park School senior pupils are holding their own speech competitions, leading up to the Ruapehu Lions competitions and the Taumarunui Toastmaster's Club event. Last Thursday senior children held their own election, with six political parties, complete with manifesto and party leaders. The elected part will lead the class until the end of the term. Parties represented were the Kiwi Rights, Freedom Fighters, Greenland , Environmental Associates, NZ Protectors, and Animal and Human Rights.

Last Friday the senior children travelled to Ruapehu College for an orientation day. All senior children have been skiing about once a week through the ski season, with ski lessons paid for by the Board of Trustees and all ski facilities use provided free by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts. Skiing is part of the curriculum for National Park School children.
