An Australian tradition comes to Ohakune next week - the Melbourne Cup party, com-

plete with champagne and fashion shows. Ohakune' s fashion shops and

the Ohakune Hotel have got together to organise a bit of fun at the hotel's Cleches bar next

Tuesday 6 November. "In Australia everything stops for the big race," said one of the organisers, Gwen Doble. "This year we are also going I to celebrate with champagne, a fashion parade, sweepstakes and a party while we watch the race on the big screen." Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed race goers, both male and female, and a creche will be available for children. Proceeds ffomtheevent including ticket saies will go to the Ohakune Primary School PTA. Tickets are $8 per - person and are available from Ragtime, Collections and George Edwards.
