Waikune help offered
The Ruapehu District Council is to offer assistance to the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board in their efforts to "come to a satisfactory conclusion to the Waikune Prison Complex issue." Deputy Mayor Weston Kirton said he was aware the Trust Board wanted to evaluate the situation again and that the board may appreciate some help in lobbying to see the complex utilised. General manager Cliff Houston said he had written three times to the local member of , parliament, Noel Scott, but was yet to received a reply.
