Last Vegymski proves successful

Waimarino gymnasts Shaun McLean and Carys Hubbard were amongst the medal winners at the Turoa Tumblers "Ultimate Vegymski's" open mixed teams gymnastics competition held on Sunday morning at the Ruapehu College Community Gymnasium. Shaun gained a bronzc team medal in the National Grade event whilst recently retired Carys achieved a silver team medal in the veteran class with the highest score of the day - 9.8 on uneven bars. Other tumblers performed well with Warwick Hays scoring an 8.85 average and veteran Helen Hubbard gaining a 9.45 on beam. Organiser Glyn Hubbard said it was an enjoyable competition held in good spirits after a great day's skiing on Saturday followed by an evening feast and the sampling of Ohakune's night life on Saturday night. All participants left after the gym competition with souvenirs of bags of carrots thus completing the Vegymski weekend. "Vegymski" stands for Veterans gymnastics skiing and is a meeting to mark the wind up of the gymnastics season.
