Children's fish days popular
Sunday 23 September 1990 was the last chance this year for youngsters to visit the Tongariro National Trout Centre and be taught how to fly cast and have a guarantied rainbow trout at the end of their line. Until next year's fishout season, keen young anglers may have to rely on doing some adult arm-twisting if they want to practice the art. The 1990 monthly fish-out days began last May and have proven as popular as ever with
record numbers of families taking part. Last month's event was filmed for telethon. Not many anglers can be guarantied a fish, but on fish-out days no young fisherfolk leave empty handed, say organisers. Their fish are weighed and measured and the children are issued with a certificate as a memento of the occasion. Some children have returned every month - 'it's choice!' is the comment most frequently overheard.
