Helpers Thanked
• We would like to thank the people who assisted at an accident on the road between Waiouru and Ohakune on Friday, August 4, shortly after 9pm. Our daughter was a passenger in a car which was in a collision with a van. She suffered a fractured skull among other injuries. As we don't know who the people Tum page 18
Letters Frompagel2 were, we hope they will see this letter. Thanks also to the members of the medical unit at Waiouru who did a splendid job. The public are fortunate that they are there to provide this service.

Local Tenders • I would like to thank Mr Houston most sincerely for replying publically to my letter regarding use of Contractors for Council work. It is appalling that a local contractor who was invited to quote for the job was in fact practically double that of the Taumarunui tradesman and I most certainly" agree that the job should have gone to the lowest price. However, I sincerely hope that the job .was advertised calling for tenders for the work rather than just, and I quote from Mr Houston's public reply to me, "that a local tradesman was also invited to price the same job." From that reply I assume that (and I may be wrong of course) that no advertisement was placed calling for tenders. Advertising should be done for all Council work as it is ratepayers' money that is being used to get the jobs done, this would then give every tradesman an opportunity to tender for the job provided he or, she is able to do the work if the tender was_accepted. I trust that in the future we can look forward to the members of Council from our own districts to follow up and make sure that every opportunity is given to all tradespeople in the district to quote and tender for Council work, and Councillors from other areas should also do the same, after all they are elected by their own district, and should look
after them
