Two more Ruapehu pupils plan for Nepal trip
Two more Ruapehu College pupils are working towards a trip to Nepal to help with the clean-up around the Mt Everest area. James Allen and Phillip Hawkin have started the long haul of raising the $6000 each needed for the month-long trip next year. They will take part in the clean-up operation that has been running there, working mainly on clearing climber's rubbish from base camp sites. The next phase of the operation is to help locals get organised to collect and dispose of rubbish properly. This trip will also work on toilet facilities to places like Namchi Bazaar, on the way to the Everest area. Here trekkers and climbers put pressure on already stretched facilities. In the mean time the two are looking for more work to earn cash. James is cutting firewood for sale at present and Phillip is working at a Waiouru truck stop, but both would like more work. Anyone who needs workers can contact Richard Milne at the College.
