Use of Contractors
• Mrs Wise has asked whether a Taumarunui tradesman was used to renovate one of the Raetihi Pensioner Flats. I can confirm both that this is the fact and that a local tradesman was also invited to price the same job. The outcome wa§ that the Taumarunui tradesman undertook the work for approximately half the price of the local quotation. Whether he stayed at a local hotel or not I do not know as the
contract was carried out on a labour only basis with no other cost' to the Council. We have a commitment to getting value for our money for works contracted out and competitive quotations will be sought for works such as these. Cost and effectiveness are the primai^ .onsiderations not whether the contractor lives within a certain part of the District or within the District at all.
