Ski people still happy

Skifield people like Nancy Van der Laan and Angus Grimwade, pictured on the front cover, are smiling because it's so far a great ski season. Whakapapa reports that they are experiencing a huge interest in skiing, with upwards of 2000 people daily midweek. Marketing manager Scott Lee puts it down to the great start, positive press and good TV, and word of mouth. He didn't have figures

available when the Bulletin spoke to him but he said it's the best season start for years as far as snow and numbers of skiers. Turoa has already been open 43 days and closed nine days, having started on 14 June (about the same time as Whakapapa). They say they've had six "successful weekends" where the field was open both days.
