Contractor logic
• I read in a previous issue of this paper where the Mayor apologised to the local caterers for not giving them the opportunity to cater for the recent visit of the Governor General and his wife. Understandably the locals are very upset and I don't blame them. I trust that this oversight will not occur again. Our Council have to realise that just because the main office is at Taumarunui that we still exist down this way and that it is imperative that the tradespeople are
given opportunities to quote for council jobs and functions. While on the subject, I believe, (and I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong) that Taumarunui tradesmen were used by council to renovate one of the Raetihi pensioner flats and that they stayed at the local hotel. What I would like to know is that if this is correct were the local tradesmen given the opportunity to quote for this job. I am no whiz at figures but even I can work out that by the time the cost of the job was added on to hotel accommodation the total cost of the job would have been greater than any price that the local tradesmen would have quoted for. As a ratepayer, and on behalf of everyone else I would appreciate a public reply from Mr Houston on this matter.
