River hut to go for $450

Te Puha Hut is to have a new home following the letting of a Department of Conservation tender for removal of the flood damaged Wanganui River facility. Mr Danny Williams of Ranana put forward the successful tender of $450 to take the hut from its site which was seriously damaged by the March floods. The hut was completely submerged during the floods. Mr Williams plans to transport the hut, after dismantling it, by jet boat to Kaiwhaiki where he hopes to use it as a shelter for jet boating and hunting trips. The hut was not used much by canoeists or boaters and DoC field centre manager John Lythgoe said the tender price was acceptable under the circumstances. Two tenders were received for the removal job, which must leave the site tidy.
