Easy Victory for Raetihi

Despite the final score of just 14-6 in favour of Raetihi the victory was relatively easy for Raetihi. The Raetihi forwards had the better of the counterparts and laid a solid foundation for some excellent back moves. Raetihi scored twice in the first 15 minutes with a try to each of their wingers Wayne Te Huia and Jeff Fahey. Huia came back strong just before half-time with a try to their big lock Parry Ngatai. The second half belonged to Raetihi even though

they only recorded another six points from two penalties. Steve Gordon had an excellent game for Raetihi and directed play very well. Tom Waara also showed what a classy player he can be when given the opportunity. The return of Big Tom Rawiri certainly helped the Raetihi forwards. Michael Te Tana, a newcomer to the Raetihi front row, also played a good game. Kevin Dodds, who has

come out of retirement, had a great game at halfback. Dean and Pita Chase played well at mid field for Huia while Robert Adams had another strong game in the front row. Scorers for Raetihi were Jeff Fahey and Wayne Te Hiua who scored tries and Wayne Te Huia who kicked two penalties. For Huia Parry Ngatai scored a try and Dean Chase a conversion.

Ohakune Karioi vs Utiku Utiku beat Ohakune 27 points to 3 on Saturday with Utiku's bigger forwards taking most of the ball. The team showed fine tactics and good control. Utiku's points came from tries by Kelvin Powell (3), Albie Marsh and Chris Karatau and Tod Barrell kicked two penalties and a conversion. Ohakune Karioi's penalty was kicked by Lachlan Harding. Waiouru vs Kaierau Waiouru beat Kaierau

20 points to four on Saturday with tries by Rick Tawhiri (2) Pita Lloyd, Tom Hullena and two conversions by Rick Tawhera. Dean Addenbrooke scored a try for Kaierau. Waiouru made up for a sluggish start, which saw Kaierau score early in the game and led for most of the first half, by touching down twice just before half time to lead 8-4. Rep players T awhiri, Lloyd and Hullena showed their good form for Waiouru along with Paul Morice and Ralph Wallace.
