Whakapapa to host North Island college skiers

Ruapehu College is to host the North Island Intersecondary School Skiing Championships again this year, with the venue this time being Whakapapa ski field. Organiser John Laurenson said all support activities will continue to be held at the college and most of the accommodation will be sought in and around Ohakune. He said the decision to move the competition from Turoa to Whakapapa would please the large number of Whakapapa skiers who take part in the event. In past years the event has attracted more than 500 competitors plus 200 support officials and 17-19 September 1990 is expected to match those figures. Organisers hope to run the four divisions' races on separate courses over two days with a top town type fun competition on the third day, weather permitting.
