Skiing sponsorship
Frompage 8 Denford McDonald, says the sponsorship marks an exciting new era for New Zealand skiing. "We have already been involved in Ski Team sponsorship for the last two years. This renewed sponsorship however, takes our involvement in New Zealand skiing from the alpine meadows to the top of the mountain. We are now embarking on an exciting new stage of our strong two way relationship with New Zealand skiing." "Last year we discussed with the many interested parties in skiing, the future of our sponsorship and the nature of New Zealand competitive alpine skiing for the 1990's. "It became clear that we all had a number of common goals and aspirations. This included the New Zealand Ski Team having a comprehensive development and coachihg programme, the appointment of an alpine director, the employment of internationally rated coaches, the need for a clear identity for the ski team and the introduction of an ath^ letes handbook, similar to those of the top achieving ski nations." "The New Zealand Ski Association and ourselves have entered into an agreement to ensure
that we can action these matters immediately. All New Zealand competitive skiing will benefit as a result." "The association has already appointed its alpine director, Mr John Ball and we look forward to working closely with him.
Mr McDonald says that as a measure of his company's support, two executive managers had been given joint responsibility for the ski sponsorship. The company had also appointed a promotions co-ordinator who would be involved full time in the skiing sponsorship.
