POWER METER SHOT
Taumarunui Police are investigating the case of the shot up electricity meter - one of the more unusual problems to be dealt with by the King Country Electric Power Board in recent times. Chief Engineer Colin Martin says a consumer was disconnected because his account was in arrears. The consumer came in some days later, paid the account, but asked that the power remain disconnected because he was doing some house alterations. On Wednesday the consumer asked for the power to be reconnected but said the board would have to come out and replace the meter first, because some-one had "shot it up." Board inspectors say they don't know whether a rifle or a shotgun had been used but there was no doubt about the end result.
