Mid term break Whakapapa skiing

Ski area management, accommodation operators and parents are all smiling after the latest snowfall at Whakapapa. After a week of "on again, off again" snow conditions eight cm of fresh snow has improved snow conditions and enabled the Happy Valley beginners fac Airies ,to open again. While the upper skifield still needs more snow to operate there is excellent skiing for beginners. Weather permitting the Centennial and Waterfall Express Chairlifts will operate for sightseeing and the Ski Shop, Ski Hire, Cafeterias and Ski School are

all operational. Whakapapa Marketing Manager Scott Lee says there is plenty of snow around the Top O' The Bruce area for families to play in and the Happy Valley chairlift is free so parents can accompany children wishing to ski on the beginners facilities. "We're expecting a busy week, it's nice to be open for the midterm break. There's good skiing for beginners and lots of areas for tobogganing and building snowmen," said Lee. The upper facilities are expected to open as usual mid to late July depending on weather.
