Nth Wanganui keeps shield

Northern Wanganui retained the Bebbington Shield when they played a strong Rangatikei team last Wednesday winnlng 21-10.

A good crowd of over 200 spectators were treated to an exciting game which saw Steve Cameron and Pita Lloyd make some great breaks. Paul Rudolph played some solid rugby when he replaced Cameron, it would be good to see the soldier make himself available for the Wanganui Rep team again. Steve Gordon played an average game but this would be due to the groin injury which has been giving him trouble for the past few weeks. James Renata who did not play as well as he normally does, incurred injuries to his neck and

back. He is now in hospital with suspected minor spinal problems. Gerard Te Heu Heu played a good game always helping and covering for his fellow outside backs. The next challenge for the Bebbington Shield will be against Central Hawkes Bay in Taihape 4th July, start - ing at 2.45pm. The Robbie Stewart coached team is expected to give the Northern Wanganui side a strong challenge. Stewart who went to France with the All Blacks in the early 1980's has played for Hawkes Bay for years and claims to have a

big strong team to make the challenge. The pending game sees the availability of Pedro Van Der Ent and Waiouru No.8 Tom Hullena. Coach John Transom has included a few new names in his squad. The Northern Wanganui team is to train at Waiouru at 10am on Sunday 1st July, they are:
