Local gymnasts win bronze
Two gymnasts from Turoa Tumblers travelled to Wellington with the WanganuiManawatu Gym Association team to compete at the 1990 Junior National Gym competition on Saturday 26 May. The team was made up of Michael Haydon and Philip Jones (Wanganui), Troy Mills (Palmerston North) and Andrew Murdie and John Hays from Ohakune. Andrew and John both competed very well with Andrew scoring a 9.0 on rings, one of the highest scores achieved at the competition. John achieved an average score of 8.25 while Andrew averaged 8.47 per apparatus. The team was placed third out of eleven associations beating some very strong teams from Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Hawkes Bay. Scott Nation also from
Ohakune travelled with the team as the reserve, and gained valuable experience.
