Fire danger high
The current spell of warm dry weather has pushed the fire danger level in to High within Lake Taupo and Rotoaira Forest pine plantations, administered by NZ Forest Managers in Turangi, and within Department of Conservation lands within the Tongariro -Taupo Conservancey of the Department of Conservation. If the dry, warm weather continues and the situation is aggravated by stronger winds, fire danger levels in these areas will reach Extreme within the next few days. The public are urged
to take care with cigarette butts and matches when travelling the regions' roads and are reminded that a permit is required before lighting a fire in the open or within one kilometre of Department of Conservation land or wihtin one kilometre of Lake Taupo and Lake Rotoaira pine forests. Permits to light fires in or adjacent to the following areas - Rangitaiki Erua and Tongariro Forests, Tongariro National Park, Kaimanawa Forest Park, all Lake Taupo Lakeshore and River Turnpage 2
