Waiouru garden competition

Judges will be looking for the best section and garden in the residential area of Waiouru next month, between 12 & 19 February to find the winner of the annual gardening trophy. Points will be allocated for: appearance from street, 15 points; display of flowers, 15 points; lawns, 15 points; hedges and shrubs, 15 points; vegetable garden, 25 points. The judging will take place in two parts. Initially all sections will be judged by a panel and the 12 best decided. These 12 will then be judged by an invited judge to determine the winner. The trophy competed for is called the Carriapa Shield. In 1956 Major General Carriapa, sioner to New Zealand, donated a shield as a trophy for the best section and garden within the Waiouru Camp.
