Summer fun on ski lifts

Visitors to Mt Ruapehu over the summer months will now have much easier access to the upper alpine region thanks to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, operators of Whakapapa Ski Area. RAL are operating their Centennial and Waterfall Express chairlifts from mid December until mid February. These chairlifts will give sightseers and climbers access to the Knoll Ridge cafeteria at a height of 2000 metres above sea level. From there a guided walk is available to Dome Shelter

(2672m) to view the Crater Lake and Mt Ruapehu's four peaks. The guides are well versed in the geology of the volcanos and history of the area so an interesting informative walk is guaranteed. For those who doubt they have the energy to climb Ruapehu the chairlift rides alone are an exciting activity suitable for the whole family. Lunch is available at the Knoll Ridge and Top of the Bruce Cafeteria and the souvenir shop is always open. Whakapapa's summer operation starts on December 16th and runs every fine day until February 11th except Xmas day and Boxing day. For more information on Whakapapa Summer Alpine Magic phone RAL in (081223) 738. Bookings are essential for the guided Crater Lake Walk.
