Unity day plans take shape
Plans for the 1990 Waimarino Community Unity day, on Waitangi day 6 February, are rapidly coming together. Monday last week the local 1990 committee held a meeting of interested people to come up with a plan for the day. The event will start at 2pm with the Mayor and Maori community representatives signing a "unity treaty" followed by a speech from the Mayor. Dignitaries will arrive by horse and vintage cars, and all the area's senior citizens are invited. Turn page 2
Waimarino unity day plans
From page 1 The day will include a wide range of musical styles, from old time to modern and Maori. A chronology of Waimarino events will be presented covering 1 all stages of the area's development, for example the arrival of the Maori, timber milling, market gardening up to the present day. A game of cricket is planned for the day as well as running races, egg and spoon and three legged races. Horses and riders from the local pony clubs will be involved and people are encouraged to wear period dress. Some local organisations will be running food stalls and barbecues will be provided for people who wish to
bring their own food to cook. Transport is being arranged by the Ruapehu Lions, and any-
one who will need a ride or who can offer a ride is asked to contact Lions Fred Collett and Bob Newton.
