All the fun of the fair

Ohakune's Christmas Carnival market day is shaping up to be in full swing this Saturday 23 December, starting at 9.00am and running until 3pm. The organisers have ordered a fine day and are hoping to have one delivered for the last carnival of the eighties.

Ohakune retailers who have organised the event say it is a family day, full of holiday fun with a chance for some last minute Christmas shopping for Waimarino customers. Market day stalls will

be set up all around town, filled with bargains with plenty of Christmas music to enhance the atmosphere.

Goldfinch Street will be closed off at the Clyde Street end to provide an area for the many activities on the

programme, and for public safety. For something to keep the hunger pangs away there will be hot Chinese food available outside Ohakune TV& Electrical, a sausage sizzle outside Rendesvous Dairy as well as cake stalls and sweets stalls. Other stalls will sell clothes and soft toys (outside Knic Knacs). Quick fire raffles will be run through the day plus many fun competitions. Free films for the children at Thompson's Picture Theatre start at 1.00pm. Father Christmas will arrive at 10am on his sleigh with fairies in attendance. Fun competitions for the family include the best dressed family dog, the best decorated bicycle competition, a skate boarding competition, and a new style throwing event to suit Ohakune especially - a ski boot throwing

competition where competitors vie for the prize for accurately throwing a ski boot through a rubber tyre. There's a window spotting competition where participants have to try to find the items out of place in various shops around town. At the Mobil service station wheel changers can prove their skill by attempting to swap a tyre in the fastest time. All these events carry prizes. Fun Challenges: a gioup of shops challenge carnival goers to find: the oldest iron (Ohakune TV&Electrical), the best Christmas hat (Bucks Drapery), the oldest fishing reel (Ohakune Sports and Gifts Centre), the oldest boot (Ohakune shoes). Another attraction will be hay rides, all through the carnival, for the children and Father Christmas will have lots of lollies to give away. Fun events

setting up a stall to get in touch with me, at Ohakune TV& Electrical as soon as possible as stall spaces are limited. "And please keep this page for you programme. The Christmas cave (on the corner of Clyde
