HEALTH WATCH

When travelling this summer please watch your little ones, as they also should be restrained in a standard approved car seat or seat belt. Babies can lose body fluids through sweating when in a hot car for long periods, so remember to give them plenty of fluids when travelling in the heat of summer. Neither babies or young children should ever be left alone in a parked car, as the temperature rises rapidly in an enclosed space. Also

there is the danger of toddlers fiddling with cigarette lighters, brakes and gears. Young babies should be left in their normal feeding routines when travelling, so if a feed time is due, stop and feed your baby at its usual time. Don't forget to allow for 'feed-stops' in estimating time for your journey. Even on short journeys around town children should be strapped in their car seats and never be allowed to stand on the back or front seat of the car.
