DAILY HIKES TO THE TOP OF THE NORTH ISLAND THIS SUMMER

Daily walks to the Ruapehu Crater Lake from Whakapapa are a feature of this year's summer nature programme which starts on 16 December and finishes 11 February. The walks are to be irun by Department of Conservation conservators with Ruapehu Alpine Lifts providing transport on Whakapapa Skifield chairlifts up to 2000 metres. The route follows Restful Ridge to Dome Shelter to see the Crater Lake and the four Ruapehu peaks, with the return journey on the Whakapapanui Glacier. A brochure describing the more than 50 different activities of the Tongariro - Taupo Summer Nature Programme was recently produced by the Department with the help of Ruapehu Bulletin staff and Wanganui Newspapers.
