Waiouru needs librarians

BY

PHILIPPA

FRENCH

When Robyn Wilson took on the job as main librarian of the Waiouru Children' s library she tried to make it a more bright and exciting place where children would feel comfortable.

The library was recently granted $1500 and with part of it a new gas heater and thermal drapes were purchased. The latest project for the library is a mural which is to be painted on the outside wall with the main entrance door being a book. The mural should be finished next month and Robyn says they hope it will attract more families. Robyn has been in Waiouru five years with her husband Shane, who is in the Navy, and son Stewart. She says she has enjoy ed W aiouru but five years is a long time here and is ready now for their posting to Auckland. They shift at the end of this month. The hours Robyn has put in to the library over the past two years have all been voluntary, the amount varying from week to week

from three to 10 depending on what's happening, says Robyn. The library now

needs another main librarian to take over from Robyn and they also need more helpers. People can volunteer as little as one hour a week to open the library after school. If there are any people interested they should contact the secretary, Rosemary Mowatt on

56-984 or Robyn on 56-068. The only qualification, says Robyn, is time and an interest in supporting the library for children. Robyn would like to thank the Camp's main library staff who she says have been extremely helpful, especially in giving advice

on purchasing new books. As well as the children's library, Robyn has been involved in Waiouru Spinners and Weavers, Women's Institute and her part time cleaning jobs. Many Waiouru people have expressed their best wishes tc Robyn and her family.
