QA Sqn celebrates
Over the weekend the Queen Alexandra Squadron (ATG Waiouru) celebrated Cambrai Day, which is an important event on the QA Squadron calendar. It commemorates the first time tanks were used on the battle fields on 20 November 1917 in Cambrai, France. The celebrations started last Friday evening with the officer commanding of QA Squadron Major A.G. Johnson, his officers and men on the unit parade ground for the 'Beating of the Retreat.' QA Squadron was accompanied onto the parade ground by the Band of the 7th Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. On Saturday the Waiouru Community saw; an impressive mounted parade of tanks and support vehicles held between the Waiouru Rugby Club and the Queen Elizabeth II Museum. The Reviewing officer for the mounted parade was the Armoured Corp Colonel Commandant Brigadier J.W. Mawson CBE, LVO. Following the parade members of QA Squadron and invited guests celebrate the day with a Cambrai cabaret. Next morning a memorial service was held. in Waiouru Camp for all soldiers who had passed away since 1949.
