At 1.05pm on Thursday 2 November the Silver Fern pulled into the Ohakune Junction Railway Station. On board were a group of Raetihi playcentre children touched by the excitement of a train trip. The children, accompanied by adults, were taking a day trip to the Waiouru playcentre. During the 20 minute train ride the children were given drinks and taken to see the train driver at work. Prior to the train ride the children also visited the farm of Lois and Russell McLean to study the animals.
