Long term plan for Ruapehu District
The Ruapehu District Council is currently preparing a long term plan for the new district. This involves a project team, comprising the senior executive staff and consultants, working together with Council and staff, in the development of the plan. "The long term plan will identify the needs of the community and
assist Council in developing policy to meet those needs," said mayor Garrick Workman last week. Mr Workman described this process as "fundamental to the establishment of the Ruapehu District Council as an effective and efficient unit of local government." "The use of consultants will greatly speed up this process which
is aimed at putting in place the goals and the objectives for the new organisation." "The Project team will consult with a wide cross-section of the district including residents, business organisations, recreational groups and other community organisations. "The consultation will involve an invitation to the community to express their views to the project Team. The submissions will greatly assist in the development of the plan. "The Project Team will be undertaking this consultative process very shortly and I would urge the community to participate as fully as possible. 'I expect that the finished plan will reflect a customer service philosophy an that the plan be completed by early 1990," he said.
