Shooters setting sights

Every effort goes into man's desire to shoot or frighten the living daylights out of stray cats or dogs who persist in scavenging around rubbish or exercising bad habits on the front lawn. Often the neighbour gets the bullet and the animal's back the next day! Ever tried target shooting? The Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club introduces the opportunity to put to the test children's and adults' practical skills in accuracy and concentration against motionless targets. The club provides .22 calibre rifles which are designed for accuracy, low velocity bullets to maintain consistency and experienced members who instruct in safety, rifle control and shooting technique. The club is affiliated
to the Wanganui association and meets Thursday evenings at 7pm and on Saturdays for juniors and for basic training or coaching. The shoots are held in the A & P shed located in the Raetihi showgrounds. Members of the club compete in Interclub, championship events being held throughout the season at Levin, New Plymouth and Palmerston North, to name a few. There the shooters gain experience and the chance to be observed by association selectors. This year seven representatives of the club have shot for the Wanganui Association in various grades. President of the WSRC said the club will be introducing outdoor shooting in December this year to take advantage of the daylight hours and to challenge an outside approach to smallbore.
