Taupo fishing report
Lake: Spasmodic 'smelting' is evident all around the lake but not yet consistent in any particular area. Harling in the eraly morning has been excellent on some days and very hard on others. Overall deep trolling is not proving easy although occasional good catches have been taken, often well off shore and using at least 100m of lead line. River mouths: These are picking up with some good catches reported in the early
morning at the Waitahanui mouth. Rivers: Very few fresh fish are present although several good Browns have been taken in the lower Tongariro. Local anglers are also catching a few fish on teh dry fly in the evenings. Tokaanu Tailrace: Best success is occurring at first light and late at night. During the day anglers are having to work hard for any success.
