Pony season started early

Due to the good weather and firm ground conditions the Ohakune Pony Club season started early and four mounted rallies in perfect weather were held before being rained off on the 5th and 6th rallies including a combined cross country day with Raetihi Pony

Club. Members are enthusiastic, with an average attendance of 13 riders. The club has several new instructors who will have benefited greatly from the two D/C Instructors' courses held in the district. The first was at

Waiouru and attracted instructors from Waiouru Saddle Club, the Waimarino Riding Club and Ohakune and Kaitieki Pony Clubs and was taken by Miss Elaine Knox-Thompson from Taupo. This was very successful although the weather was far from kind, but 100% better than for the one in Raetihi taken by Miss Kay Horgan from Auckland. Kay did a first class job in very trying conditions, with the Guinea Pigs only able to ride for 1 hour

during the weekend. The following riding course finally started on Thursday after two postponements and was much appreciated by all. Three members of the branch competed at Fordell on Labour Weekend Saturday in a training one-day event and had a most enjoyable day in good weather and gained valuable experience. The club has several things to look forward to: the new Instructors Manual No. 3 which

should soon be unloaded from a ship now the wharf strike is over, more rallies and Waimarino Club competition days. These include a dressage day on Saturday 18 November, a cross country and Show Jumping Gambles Day on Sunday 19 November both at Roke's Otiranui property and the Games Day on 2 December 1989. Any enquiries conceming these events should be made to Mrs Cooper Ohakune 58-466.
