Labour Weekend wild pork

It seemed like every hunting man and his dog was "tanked up," "packed up" and "shacked up," during Labour Weekend in search of the largest boar and sow, for part of a $2000 total in prize, money. The competition, organised by the Pig Hunters' club, attracted entrants from as far as Hawera and Patea and included a children's division for opossums and eels. The largest boar was caught at Kahura and weighed in at 211 lbs. The largest sow weighed 99 lbs and was caught near Patea. This year was the seventh competition organised by the club. Results were: Heaviest boar, Donald Parkes, Shayne Harvey, Leon Berridge, (Raetihi), 211 pounds; Tom Spry, John Mac, Jim Hanright,

(Ohakune), 186 pounds; Jimmy Christiansen, Murray Hutchins, Ivan Hall, (Raetihi), 116

pounds. Heaviest sow: Lawrence Katene, Dean Katene, Harold Wood-

head, (Patea), 99 pounds; Alan Piercy (Patea), Bob Pitaway (Kakatahi), Doug Hall

(Raetihi), 98 pounds; Kevin Taura, George Taura, (Raetihi), 97 pounds.
