Kids learn outdoors

Horse riding, rifle shooting, abseiling, canoeing, orienteering, and knot tying were some of the activities standard three and four children from Waiouru school took part in while at Kiwi Ranch in Rotorua recently. The children from the school worked hard to raise money to enable the camp to proceed.
Waiouru Army Training Group helped very generously with transport to and from the camp. Excellent parent help enabled the children to take part in the activities safely and meaningfully. The children were very proud of their achievements in the different activities. Scattered rain for much of the week dampened spirits a little but Wednesday saw the group have their day in
town visiting Rainbow Springs, the farm show, going up the gondolas, having a ride on the luge, visiting the Rotorua museum and a visit to Skateland before they returned to Kiwi Ranch for another filling dinner. Thursday evening was concert night and the children did well to entertain each other for nearly two hours, although the parents did contribute an item or two. Friday was pack up and clean up day. The
group made a stop at Whakarewarewa to view the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and the village and thermal area. It was a very full week and the children should have good memories of their week at Kiwi Ranch and. parents and teachers enjoyed each other's company. The Waiouru school staff would like to thank all those who helped make the camp a success.
