"I was just about to advertise for staff when Louise Shepherd enquired about a posi-
tion," says Waiouru hair salon owner Michelle Eaton. Michelle's Waiouru "Headquarters for hair" is one year old this
month. Recently the work load got too heavy and Michelle decided to advertise for an experienced hairdresser to assist her. Louise Shepherd has recently moved to Waiouru from Auckland and by coincidence phoned Michelle looking for a job just at the right time. Louise has been hairdressing for five years and started at Headquarters for Hair on 11 October. Louise will work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Michelle says she
has really loved her year working in Waiouru and she doesn't have any plans to leave. The people are friendly and interesting, "they have made me feel welcome even though I don't live in Waiouru." Michelle commutes each day from Raetihi where she has lived for 10 years. Michelle and her husband have three children, Shane aged seven, Rosalieanne aged five and Tracy aged three. Michelle comes from a family of hairdressers
- her mother has just retired after 33 years hairdressing and her sister has taken over their mother's salon in Taupo. As well as five days a week Michelle likes to arrange demonstration days for Waiouru public and also gets involved in sponsoring local projects like sports trips etc. With the community centre carnival coming up in November Michelle plans to give half price haircuts to contribute to the day.
