A Malaysian couple are leaving the Waimarino spring behind, bound for Melbourne, Australia. Stuart and Leonie Tee and 19-month old New Zealand born Sharmaine, leave Ohakune at the end of the month to take up residence in Geelong, a town with a population of 250,000, about a half hour's drive from the capital. The family have lived in this area for two and a half years. Stuart is already familiar with Geelong having lived there for two years out of five the couple spent in Australia before emigrating to New Zealand. Sharmaine was born at Waiouru Maternity Annexe, which has since closed.

Leonie is leaving behind a thriving dental surgery practice while Stuart worked as a mechanical engineer for Winstone Pulp Intemational. He is taking up a position with the Australian division of Ford Motors as a project engineer, which offers scope for designing. Leonie intends to join a hospital as a dental officer and is looking at several options. Their work places are easily accessible from their new home. The couple, who arrived in Ohakune mid1987, said they found local people to be "wonderful" and say they will miss the many friends they have made during their brief stay.
