This Notice has the effect that the Forest Area known as Waimarino Forests, and its Fire Safety Margin is specified as a restricted fore season for 12 months from August 21 1989. PERMITS REQUIRED TO LIGHT FIRES IN OPEN AIR: Every person commits an offence against the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 who sets on fire, or assists to set on fire, or causes to be set on fire, or aids, abets and assists in setting on fire in the open air any vegetation or any other combustible material whatsoever Jexcept pursuant to an authority or permit from a Fire Officer for the Forest Area. Persons wishing to light fires in the open air within the Waimarino Forest Area, and its safety margin, can obtain a permit from:

RESPONSIBILITIES: Winstone Afforestation Limited has the authority for the Forest Area and fire safety margin, is repsonsible for: Fire protection (subject to any directions by the Waimarino Council and for the administration of the Forest and Rural Fires Act as it pertains to the Forest Area and the fire safety margin. The Company does not take those responsibilities lightly and intends to enforce the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 where necessary to preveht unlawful fire lighting and damage to the assets of the Company and of landholders within the Forest Area and safety margin. We expect the co-operation of landholders and the public living in, working in or travelling through the district in carrying out the responsibilities. UNAUTHORISED ENTRY The Forest and Rural Fire Regulations 1979 deem it an offence for any person to knowingly and wilfully enter or remain in any exotic forest without a written permit or, being a permit holder fails to observe the conditions in the permit. The Company hereby gives warning that it will take all necessary steps to enforce this provision of the Regulations. ASSISTANCE: Winstone Afforestation personnel are available to advise affected landholders on their land clearing activities and in the planning of buming operations.
