More Ohakune water news
The continuing saga of the Ohakune water supply treatment came up for discussion at last week's Waimarino District Council meeting. Councillors heard that a filter, which is part of the new pressure reducing valve system, was too small and needed cleaning every two hours. It has been replaced and now operates for at least a week before cleaning is necessary. Samples of the fil-
tered water have gone to the engineers, Payne Sewell Ltd, for analysis to ensure the ultra violet decontamination system will be capable of treating the water. District Engineer Don Sattler said his staff have carried out all the other testing required by the Health Department. Awaited is Ministerial approval for the subsidy for the project. Previous government
approval was "in principle". Also awaited is clarification from the consultant engineers that the project's Stage Two is not needed immediately. The engineers say storage capacity will be needed very soon in Ohakune but staff tests have shown the capacity of the supply to be 47,500 gallons per hour which is much higher than the current maximum water usage.
