An all-round top school ski race
Ruapehu's home town College won the annual North Island Secondary Schools Skiing Competition last week. Ruapehu College amassed 78 points to edge out Wellington's Queen Margaret College on 74, with Auckland's Kings College on 73 points in third position. Teams from 106 schools comprising 530 individuals, took part in the annual Turoa event, which involved a giant slalom and a dual slalom run on Monday and Tuesday. The huge event thought to be the largest ski' race event in the southern hemisphere, was conducted under clear skies and five knot winds on an average snow base of 1 1 1cm.
