Council waiting

Ruapehu District Council General Manager Designate Cliff Houston was still waiting yesterday afternoon for a decision on whether seven late election nominations could be accepted.

The nomination forms were supposed to have been delivered to Taumarunui on time on 1 September but were mislaid by a candidate. Waiouru council candidate Bill Harding has suggested to other Waiouru candidates that they all withdraw their nominations to force a by-election. He told the Bulletin he organised a meeting of candidates last Friday, by when the Government's decision was to have been known, to discuss the option. He said his suggestion would be for Waiouru community board candidates to leave the nominations in, so that Waiouru had some representation in

the inlerim period between the October election and a possible byelection. Waiouru Community Board candidates whose nominations were received are: CARTER, Nia Karen; DRYLIE Colin Maxwell; FITCHETT, Murray John; HUTCHINSON; Catherine Mary; JACOBSEN Bryan Lynn; LEOW, • Frank KekKeng; LUSCOMBE, Gordon William; MONTGOMERY, Douglas Welton; TURNER, Colin William; WEBB; Brian Alexander. Six board members are required. These names were left off the list of local body nominees in the Bulletin last Friday.

The Bulletin apologises for this error.
