MAGPIE ZAPS WAIOURU TELEVISION RECEPTION

A piece of wire, most probably dropped by a magpie, onto high tension wires on the western side of Sate Highway One is thought to be responsible for recent bad television reception in parts of Waiouru. Mr Gary Gloag from Broadcast Communications Limited told the Bulletin last week the cause of the interference was traced to shorting in the high tension electricity wires and that power board staff had found that a piece of wire was responsible. He said the most likely explanation was that a magpie had dropped it there.
