CENTRAL VOLCANIC REGION TO BE TV STAR

'The Lake that Exploded" is to be screened on television on Sunday 24 September. It is a wildlife film on the central North Island area mostly affected by the AD 186 eruption of Lake Taupo. Cameramen worked on the film for four years to capture this unique ecological region. The film concentrates on the Taupo area and looks at some of this region's paradoxes such as the Kaimanawa wild horses which, while an exotic species, are protected along side deer which are heavily hunted. The film also looks at the Karioi pine plantations and the pine seedlings on Ruapehu plus the programme aimed at eradicating them to protect the fragile alpine ecology.
