More Rangataua scheme for less money
Rangataua's sewerage scheme cost ratepayers $358,416, which is $50,584 less than the August 1987 estimate. The original estimate was $409,000, a July 1988 estimate was $321,000 and a November 1988 estimate was $356,383. The reasons for the November increase were: an increase from 60 to 160 service connections ($25,000) and the addition of $10,383 in Waimarino District Council engineering and administration costs. The reason for the $2033 increase from the November estimate to the final cost were given as extra service lateral pipe lengths and extra WDC fees. In the final costs the construction contract was set at $253,300, which included the cost of the 100 extra service connections, though the November estimate of contractor's cost of $247,548 did not include the service connection extras (the contractor's contingency amount covered most of the extra cost, said the district engineer). Other differences between the estimate and the final cost were: $12,000 extra for consultant engineers, and $7600 extra for Waimarino District Council staff services.
