Happy skiers!

More than 50cm of snow fell at Whakapapa Ski Area and between 40 and 50cm fell at Turoa between Tuesday and Thursday this week boosting both skifield's skiable areas. Skiing conditions on the mountain have im-

proved dramatically with good skiing being reported at Whakapapa right to the bottom of the Waterfall Express and West Ridge Quad Chairlift. The Happy Valley and Hut Flat beginner facilities are open again after being

closed for the last week due to a lack of snow. Turoa is now skiable to the car park through the Mangawhero Gully, the Giant Chairlift is skiable to the bottom and Turoa were last night hopeful of opening the Winterg arden platter number one. "It's looking the best is has all season," said Turoa skifield manager Andy Chapman. "We are obviously delighted" said Scott Lee, Marketing Manager for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts. "It's been a lean snow year so far but now we are set for the season. The skiing at present is magnificent with good skiing for all levels of skiers. Whakapapa plays host to the Kiwi Lager National Ski Charrtps on September ll-15th. The new snow will guarantee a successful event, says Scott. More snow was forecast over the next few days.
