Community boards explained (at last)
Details of what duties our community boards will carry out are finally available, just a few days before nominations close for board candidates. There are to be two
southern Ruapehu community boards, one for Waiouru and one for the Waimarino. At Wednesday's Waimarino District Council meeting Mayor Garrick Workman told councillors of the legislative provisions
covering the boards. The information had been received by the Ruapehu District Council on 17 August. The purpose of the boards are specified as being for • The consideration of and reporting on of
all matters referred to it by the territorial authority (Ruapehu District Council). • The overview of road works, water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, parks, recreational facilities, community ac-
tivities and traffic management within the community. • The preparation of an annual submission to the budgetary process of the territorial authority for expenditure within the community. • Communication with community organisations and special interest groups within the community. • To perform such functions as are delegated to it (by the District Council) under the authority of section lOlzz of the Act. Nominations close for community board candidates next Friday.
