Waimarino Hospital helpers thanked

Last week the Wanganui Area Health Board invited a number of people and group representatives to a morning tea. Providing refreshment is not the aim of the annual event - it is held to extend thanks to the many community groups and individuals who help out at the hospital.

Many board members were present at the function, which with the impending new area board, will be the last for most. Chairman Betty Bourke said most were not standing for . election to the new board and that ihcluded herself. She stressed the need for country people such as those in the Waimarino to make sure they get able representation on the new board. Waiouru and the Waimarino will be represented by three board members on the new Manawatu Wanganui Area Health Board - but they are to be elected from the Wanganui area at large. Waimarino board member Dorrothy Scarrow extended the thanks to the various people and groups the function was aimed to honour.

She commended the 13 meals-on-wheels volunteer drivers who delivered 1888 meals last year. She said Waimarino Hospital delivers more meals than any other rural hospital.

This "Bouquet" comes from the Wanganui Area Health Board and is to all the groups and individuals who make life easier for our sick and injured at the Waimarino Hospital.

She said thanks to the 14 "Pink Ladies" who visit hospital patients to talk, wash hair, run errands and to encourage. The service clubs of Lions and Rotary were mentioned for their practical and financial support. She mentioned

the helicopter pad which is being built by club members including pilot Jim Reed. She made special mention of Jim who was working through the "tea break" on the pad. The Waimarino Rescue Helicopter Trust were thanked, and she said it was good to know that

service was there when we need it. She thanked the clergy for their regular patient visits, the plunket nurse and the public health nurse, the Community Health Watch Committee and the Police. "The hospital depends on the goodwill of the community and, when times are hard, we depend more and more on the support of the community," said Mrs Scarrow "Thank you all for your time."
