Waiouru misses rugby place

Waiouru rugby seniors lost out to Utiku for fourth place in the Wanganui Rugby Football Union's division one competition last Saturday.

In a game where both sides got their share of the ball, Waiouru ran into solid defence, loosing 10-6. Utiku's Peter Stratton broke a six-all deadlock, after breaking through Waiouru's defences for a try in the corner. Waiouru's Tahi Morton, Tom Hullena and Sean Thomas played well in the pack and Pita Lloyd and coach Terry Mitchell ran well in the backs. Pita Lloyd scored Waiouru's try which Lachlan Harding converted. Raetihi vs Counties Raetihi are now midway up the second division points table after beating Counties 25-10 on the weekend, holding on to fourth place in the division competition. Paul Trow played an exceptional game for Raetihi, scoring two of their tries. Other Raetihi players to shine were Richard Ormond in the pack and Jim Beazley on the wing. Raetihi's points came from tries by Paul Tro.w, Marsh Tangaroa and Richard Ormond, and three conversions and a penalty by WayneTeHuia. Ohakune Karioi vs Waverley Ohakune's form on Saturday was the best for a long stfetch of games, just loosing to Waverley 18-15. Waverley's Ian Symes

touched down a magical try in the closing stages of the game to give them the final lead. Ohakune-Karioi's coach player Whetu "Mareikura played well and in turn inspired his side, _ which were

stronger in the rucks, mau's and lineouts. Ohakune's points came from a try by P Cornelius and three penalties and a conversion by Whetu Mareikura. Narrow win for OK U 19s Ohakune Karioi Under 19s found it difficult to field a team against Taihape on Saturday. It proved to be a

game best forgotten by the side, with Ohakune winning by two penalties to one try, not converted. Ohakune Karioi led 60 at half time which was a fair indication of the run of play but in the second half Taihape Pirai.es were back into the game through their forwards. The Pirates half back scored a good try after

following up a high ball which Ohakune Karioi payers wanted no part of catching. Taihape Pirates were unfortunate in not having a goal kicker, missing out on the conversion. Player of the day was Steve Hagley. Ohakune Karioi have a bye next week and play Marist at Wanganui on 12 August.
